Love this machine August 26, 2010 CindyD32 I love this machine, I used it in my home and did wonderful on my pet stains and high traffic areas.
I took it to my lake house, thought I would try and salvage my carpet there. This carpet has been commerically cleaned before and did not do this good of a job. This machine did a 100% better job. Could not be happier.
Love the separate water compartments. The clean water and dirty water tanks empty and fill at the same rate. This tell me there is very little water left in my carpet. Carpet dries very quickly.
One drawback is that you are emptying and filling often, hence alot of product(shampoo) is being used, but the results were worth the effort.
Hoover Steam Vac F5912900 August 18, 2010 GR My previous Steam vac lasted about 10 years before leaking so much I gave up on it. The inside hose was a particular problem. This model completely eliminates the inside hose, but you have to manually move a hose and attach to the front suction tank each time you switch from floor to hose (which I really did not like at first, but got used to it quickly). Other post mentioned this model was made in USA, but mine was from Mexico... North America at least. Seems decently sturdy, should last 10 or more years.

Going strong on 10 years June 16, 2010 Susan Hicks 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I bought this steam cleaner right after I bought my new home 10 years ago. At the time, I spent over $250 for this machine but I have NEVER regretted it. I steam clean my carpets with this at least 2 times a year (spring and fall) and every time one of the dogs has one of those "little" accidents.
This thing is nearly invincible. I have had this nearly 10 years and only now do I have to replace a part. I went to Hoover's website and found the new hose (after 10 years, the hose has developed a hole at the base where it is secured in the housing). The part wasn't too expensive. It only takes a couple of days to receive and I'm back to cleaning. (Good thing because I just spilled coffee on the carpet). I can't believe that something made nearly 10 years ago still has parts readily available. That has to tell you something about Hoover's products. They're quality and they last a long time.
I get my solution in a gallon jug at Sears. I think that has a better smell and it doesn't leave such a soapy residue (which makes your carpets softer and dry faster). Believe it or not, my carpets still look good after 10 years with 2 dogs and 1 rambunctious teenager.
I read someone's review that the tank is hard to clean. Let me tell you, I have two dogs and lots of dog fur. I put the whole thing right into the tub. I plug up the drain and put just a little water on the bottom of the tub. I turn on the steam vac (turn off the tub water first because electricity and water don't mix) and suck up the water in the bottom of the tub. This cleans out the fur in the front port. I pull out the steam vac and dump the canister and rinse it out in running tub water. That's it. Coil up the cord and you are done. If you are an older person and can't pick up the vac (it is a little heavy and cumbersome at times), squirt some water out onto a linoleum floor and suck it up with the steam vac. It does the same thing. When I get really spunky, I wash my bathroom floor with it. It cleans my floor and the port at the same time. The canister is ONLY hard to clean if you have used it and do not rinse it out when you are done. The dog fur dries and the soap cakes up in the canister making it difficult to get out. I only did that one time. It was a lesson learned. Really, the 2-3 minutes that you spend rinsing it out when you are done is well worth it.
Honestly I don't know what I ever did without this steam vac and I hope I never have to find out. With the rate that I am going, I can pass this down to my son.
The big "+" for this machine is . . . May 17, 2010 Gary (Phoenix) The big "+" for this machine is its great suction - I can't believe how much dirt it gets up! The clean water tank will drip water out of the bottom where the water feeds into the machine. Everyone says that's normal. Just put a rag under the tank when you carry it to and from the machine. DO NOT CARRY THE CLEAN WATER TANK BY ITS HANDLE!! The way the handle is connected to the tank is with a tiny plastic rod on each side of the handle. Those rods will break. Just put your hands under the tank and carry it that way.
The main reasons for not giving this machine a 5 were: ASSEMBLY - one of the nuts that goes on the end of the bolt that attaches the handle was hard to tighten; tool holder on back of unit has a hole that is supposed to align with a predrilled hole on the back of the machine. That hole on the back of the machine was off by ½" (!) so I ended up having to drill a hole where it's supposed to be!! OWNER'S MANUAL - illustrations are pretty mediocre; some are hard to figure out what they're supposed to be showing. TOOL HOLDER - converter on end of hose kept coming off where it's stored at the back of the machine. It's best to just take the entire hose off before you start cleaning.
Reading the reviews and the owner's manual first really helped. I would strongly suggest that after you've had a chance to use the machine a bit, that you go back to the reviews and copy/paste the parts of the reviews that are most pertinent to you into a Word document, and then print it off and put it with your owner's manual for future reference.
Steam Clean Is Inaccurate May 13, 2010 KyBoynCO (Brighton, CO) I knew when I purchased that it was not "Truly" a steam cleaner. It does not heat the solution to steaming point but rather depends on the user to keep the solution hot. I bought it because it had the brushes I believed necessary to really clean the carpet of the dog stains that we are plagued with. Our dog likes to pick his food up and take it onto the carpet and drop it before he decides to consume it. He does this while we are away at work so we can't even correct him at the moment he does it. The surge function is nothing more than pouring more solution onto the spot before the brushes work it in and the vacuum draws it back up. Overall - it is what I thought I was purchasing however it has a weak point. The latch that keeps the handle in the upright position when not in use is weak. If you pick the cleaner up to carry it and bump the head on "stairwell" for instance, it will break the catch feature and allow all of the dirty water to spill on the floor. "Yes, that happenend to me". And my wife was not happy even though I'd worked all day to get the carpets cleaned! Yes, I bumped it but the latch should be stronger. Overall I'd say this is a good product. The carpet looked fabulous until I ruined it.
