I was disappointed when I received and assembled my vacuum. I expected to receive the "Embedded DirtFinder" feature and did not receive it. Before purchasing this model I looked up the UH50000 on the hoover site. The site did not list the "Embedded DirtFinder" as part of the UH50000, however in the picture gallery the DirtFinder feature was clearly shown. Since the UH50000 was the most expensive bagged vacuum listed on the site under the upright vacuum list and because it was shown in the photos for the machine I expected to receive that feature.
I have a dog. Dander and pet hair are not always visible on my carpet. I hoped the DirtFinder feature would give me encouragement to vacuum portions of my carpet that are not obviously dirty.
After receiving my vacuum I searched the Hoover site for the DirtFinder feature. It appears on the UH50005B model, but not the UH50000 model. Note that on the Amazon site there is a slightly more expensive vacuum under the apparently mislabeled model designation of UH5005B (missing zero). The information for that vacuum states that it is a Hoover UH50000 and little else. Perhaps that one has the DirtFinder. Who knows?

We are very pleased with this vacuum. It has picked-up everything our four children have thrown at it. The suction is so strong that it can make the hose shorten itself if the end is plugged. Kinda tricky for reaching far, luckily we have half flights of stairs.
Pros: Good suction, pet hair tool works, self propelled, low emissions, brush can be turned off for hard floors
Cons: a little heavy, short hose
The self propel feature helps you forget how heavy it really is. The kids think that it is fun to "drive". You may want a longer hose to use the pet hair tool easier on long flights of stairs. It does leave lines on taller carpets.
Great vacuum July 26, 2010

Highly recommended in consumer reports so I bought it to replace a previous Hoover self-propelled vacuum. Does a very good job and the attachments work well, particularly the pet hair vacuum head. I recommend purchasing a longer flexible tube since the standard one doesn't stretch very far and knocks the vacuum over.
Vacuumed well... but July 25, 2010

I purchased this vacuum cleaner because I have always liked Hoovers. After putting it together, I tried it out. It vacuumed well and had great suction. But, the handle truly hurt my hand. I didn't vacuum even 1/4 of a room and I stopped. I thought maybe it was just me. Hubby came home, told me I was crazy. He went in to use it and turned it off almost immediately b/c it hurt his hand too! I sent it back and went buy another one only to realize that most people now have this horrible handle.

Received a nonworking vacuum. It seems to be made so cheaply. The carpet height adjustment knob would not stay in place. When you put it on the longest setting it just slid by itself down to the lowest setting. Made with a lot of cheap plastic parts. I would not recommend this product.
