Great vac - but not for wood floors. September 9, 2010 Tiffany Nelson I bought this vac and owned it just a few days and returned it. It is an excellent design and has superior suction but is not good for wood floors as the brush roll has no shutoff. That means when you're using the attachments or vacuuming wood floors, the brush roll is on and spinning. If the vac is on, the brushroll is on. Silly, really. Why spin the brushes on hardwood? Sure I could adjust the height adjustment but it's still silly to risk damage to your wood floors. Even Hoover's manual says "For optimal cleaning performance on bare floors, brushroll should be turned off." (Suction only mode only available on select models).
I rather pay more for a vacuum that has the ability to turn that off - and I did - I bought it's "brother" the hoover Windtunnel "PET" UH70210 which has 3 additional features. Besides the pet functions (which I don't need), the Hoover UH70210 WindTunnel® T-Series WindTunnel Pet Rewind Bagless Upright has A) a headlight, B)brush roll SHUTOFF with a simple foot lever, and C) the handle can flip down to save space/height. But the main point is the shutoff for me!
This model - UH70120 is lightweight, has great suction, and the cord reel is fantastic! But I decided to get the slightly more expensive model with those 3 added features. If you only have carpet, get this model, it's cheaper. It left our small amount of carpet amazingly clean and new looking. But if you have wood or laminate, get the other one I mentioned.
If I had to do it again, I'd spend for the Dyson September 7, 2010 C. Coulter (Chelsea, MI) We have a Dyson DC07 we've been using for 6 years now, not a single problem. However, when we needed a second vacuum for a vacation home, I read the fairly positive reviews and decided for $99 to try this Hoover rather than spending 3-4x as much on another Dyson. After all, it's just a vacuum cleaner. So far I'm sorry that I did though...
The vacuum sucks up and seems to clean well, though not as good as the Dyson. The height adjustment is a little clunky. It is pretty quiet which is nice. The auto retracting cord is also nice, though you pay for that by having a shorter cord than most. Where it seems to really lose it's luster is in the quality of the components. We are not hard on vacuums, but within the first week the little plastic guide on the cord retractor has broken. Right out of the box the rubber seals on the canister don't stay connected. The Dyson has a nice feature where you can place the canister in a garbage back, pull a trigger with your finger and the canister trap door opens and dumps. The Hoover has a rinky dink mechanism on the side of the canister, and usually when I'm trying to operate that, the top of the canister dislodges instead. And if you do get it to open, then the rubber seal on the trap door falls off and you have to fiddle with reseating it, so I just open the canister at the top and carefully dump it that way.
When this croaks, and it probably won't be long based on the cheap construction, I'll pony up the dough and get another Dyson.
Excellent Vacuum With Problems September 2, 2010 B. Cupp (Renton, WA.) 1 out of 2 found this review helpful
First of all, my Windtunnel T-series is the most effective vacuum I've ever had. I love this thing in many ways--it's fairly light and easy to move around. It suctions great. However, the belt keeps coming off, requiring me to repeatedly take the time to fix it. Now, I have no suction in the wand. I've only used this vacuum 6 times. I would have hoped that Hoover would have designed a more durable machine. Oh, well.
Lasted 3 months before we had problems August 31, 2010 Uday Anumalchetty (St. Paul, MN) 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
The belt that turns the brush wheel snaps off. It is a pain in the rear to put it back on. The customer service is very rude, and i'd rather not call them again.
I went beyond the 90day return policy of target. I wish i could return this stupid thing. My old bissel (10 years of service) atleast worked a little.
I hate companies with bad customer service. This one tops it with poor belt design.
The vaccuming portion is good, when it works.
Great vacuum cleaner August 30, 2010 R. Robbins 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
I needed a vacuum cleaner that would be easier to use than my ancient Filter Queen. I was shocked at how much dirt, dust and lint the Hoover vacuum picked up when I first used it. It does a GREAT job and is so easy to use. I used to HATE vacuuming, but now it is a breeze and the carpets look better than ever. I would definitely recommend this product to a friend!
